Yesterday we had a nice bbq with some Singaporian friends of mine, namely Alisa and Kit, two nice thai people from my CS4250 module group (right
on the picture above), ShuFen, my welcoming buddy and her friend Cai
Tien (left on picture above).
The idea dated back from an evening a fortnight ago. Sitting at the tables of the bbq pits for Fabian's birthday (having Tiger and a giantic cake, thank you Fab :) and realizing that we don't have that much occasion to speak with local people, we decided to organize a barbecue and to invite our Singaporian friends so that we can know them a little bit better. After discussing hard and analizing our schedule, we tentatively chosed last tuesday to have it yesterday. This let us only few time to invite the people and finaly four of them came, all "my" friends.
So yesterday was barbecue day for me. I woke up to go shopping. I've been able to go out of my bed around 9.30 but we left around 11 to go to Cold Storage in Holland Village. As Holland Village is an expatriate neighborhoud, we'd been able to find kind of western food there. I went there with Fabian, we spent quite a long time in the supermarket, deciding what to take and what we would eat. After more than an hour and an half, we went out with a lot of vegetables for a good tomatoe-cucumber-corn-tuna-onion salad, some fish filets, chicken meat, sausages with potatoes and an impressive quantity of fruits for the dessert. We also found some french baguette (well, looked like at least :)) and butter, good french president butter. I haven't eaten butter for so long now (something like 3 months i guess :) ...
Back to PGP around 14.30, we had lunch and then began to cook. Cooking is not really the appropriate word, it was more like peeling and cutting fruits and vegetables, but it took us a lot of time. We also had to boil the potatoes and this isn't very easy without any casserole! Fortunately, I found some in my cluster ...
People arrived around 6.30pm, we ate a lot and spoke about many things, having some real good time. I think my guest were quite pleased too, admitting at the end they didn't expect to be treated so well :) Maybe it wouldn't have been the same if we had managed to gather more people. Anyway, it was very nice like this, we weren't too much, eight being a right size to have one conversation across the table. Our asian guest also discovered western way to cook and have a barbecue, was funny.
To sum up, it was a very good evening with good people and good food ... Could one ask more ?
