Hong Kong, China and Vietnam in 7 days …

... is obviously too short, you must think :). And you're probably right. But we had only seven days and wanted to see a little bit of these places, so we decided to try it. If you're not afraid spending a lot of time in buses, train and taxi and have so little time like us, here is the detailled outline of our week!

  • Location: China & Vietnam
  • Date: 25th of September to 1st of October
  • Plane: SG-Hong Kong (JetStar, 174 s$) and Hanoi-SG (Tiger Airways, 140 s$)
  • Price: around 750 s$ all inclusive

Location - Overview

Total time spent in transportation: more than 63 hours, that more than 2 days and an half :) …

  • 7 hours of plane (Singapore-Hong Kong and Hanoi-Singapore)
  • 40 hours in trains (Hong Kong-Guangzhou, Guangzhou-Kunming, Lao Cai-Hanoi)
  • 16 hours of bus (Kunming-Hekou/Lao Cai, Hanoi-Halong Bay and back)

Kilometers travelled
(excluding plane, too easy :)): 2750 kms
  • Hong Kong to Guangzhou: 170 kms (3hrs - 60km/h)
  • Guangzhou to Kunming: 1650 kms (25hrs - 66km/h)
  • Kunming to Hekou (chinese border): 350 kms (12h - 30 km/h)
  • Lao Cai (vietnamese border) to Hanoi: 250 kms (12h - 20km/h)
  • Hanoi to Halong Bay and back: 330 kms (6h - 55km/h)

It makes no doubt it was kind of travelling trip :).

Just back from Vietnam !

The recess week has now ended and I have to work harder than never (well, i restrict to this year of course, i've got hard time in a previous life :)). Don't be afraid though, i won't hurt myself with schoolwork and this post is the best proof !

Our holidays were awesome, we've travelled so much, seen so many different landscapes and met different people, i really enjoyed this week. The beginning was very good in Hong-kong, meeting Youssef and Marai (our meeting on her french blog), friends from my home school, the INT. We had pretty good time, and the city of Hong-Kong is rather impressive ! Then we went to China ... everything is so big there, it was strange. Travelling took us more time than expected and we finally had only one evening in Guangzhou and one day in Kunming. But travelling time was also very good to discover landscapes and people in the train ... this country is really puzzling, especially if you can't speak chinese. We sometimes found ourselves in laboured situations, needing to order something to eat without knowing what we would have ... Of course no need to worry much about this, but it is rather unsettling :). We then crossed the border to Vietnam on friday morning, arriving at night in Hanoi. We went to Halongbay (almost overcrowded but unquestionably beautiful) and wandered in Hanoi. This is a really nice city, its Old Quarter is so delightful. There were many french people everywhere and french cooking from time to time (real almond croissant, it was sooooo good ...), beer and food were cheap, everything was fine ! We even met some french girls, an old friend of Adrien and her friend for a cool evening.

Two small pictures to illustrate this, in Halong bay and in Hanoi. And more details later, there's so many things to say !
